Ms. Kibbe's student for a day!
I had the chance to visit Jenna at Gettysburg high school this Friday. This Friday was an adapted schedule for them so all the blocks were shortened to allow for a club block. I thought that this was a pretty cool adapted schedule although I was confused on the flow of the day. this allows the students to go to any club meeting that they need to. They have 2, 30-minute blocks so that students can go to a total of 2 different club meetings. I think that this is awesome because it's so hard to schedule meetings after or before school because students are so busy now a days. They had officer candidate speeches and man do they have some good students that would make some awesome officers based off their speech.
I also got to observe Jenna teach a wildlife class and a horticulture class. In wildlife they were working on creating posters on different animals to highlight different facts about them. There were some pretty cool ones including a student that wants to move to Hawaii so she did her project on a seal that lives in Hawaii. In her horticulture class her students were creating a story board on photosynthesis, the nitrogen cycle, and fertilizer. The goal of this was to show her what they have learned and present what they made. I like this idea instead of a formal exam or quiz, because it allows them to be creative in what they learned.
Jenna is a super sweet teacher and you can tell that she has an amazing relationship with her students. Checking out some of her projects and activities that she has done with the class was awesome. I will defiantly be stealing some of the things that she has done with her animal science class. Overall it was great to see Jenna and the amazing things that she has done while being at Gettysburg!
It is always encouraging to visit other teachers and see the good things that are happening. Take advantage of it when you can, as it can be difficult to find time to do so!
