investment for student teaching
3- Identify 3 relevant connections to your student teaching internships
As a new teacher going into the field the biggest concern is finding different ways to mix up instruction. This reading had a ton of different group teaching techniques that could all be used while I’m student teaching. The different techniques include lecture, discussion, demonstration, field trips, role-playing, resource people and cooperative learning. Technically during student teaching we have time to test out all of these different methods of group teaching and that’s something that I am looking forward to.
I feel like we talk about objectives all the time and often brush over them and how important they are. This reading will serve as a good resource to have in order to create objectives that are meaningful and measurable for our students. This also means having a mix of higher and lower-level blooms verbs for our students to meet. After all these objectives are what our students will be assessed on throughout the semester and as a teacher there should be considerable thought put into writing them.
While student teaching we of course need to have our students take assessments and evaluate them somehow. This reading talked about different ways to evaluate doing by learning activities such as interview based, product based, open ended questions, portfolio based and behavior based. These are good evaluation tips to keep in mind while student teaching because in Ag we often do very hands on work and a multiple-choice test isn’t always the best way to evaluate our students on what they know.
2- Identify 2 connections to other courses that are part of your #TeachAg Journey
Since we read about writing meaningful and measurable objective it reminded me of our 413 class about program planning. While we don’t write objectives per say when creating an agricultural program, in a way we do. we write goals that we want our program to complete and shouldn’t those goals be able to be evaluated.
While reading we talked about evaluating doing by learning activities and this is something that we activity use in 350 in ag mech. While we are the students are being evaluated by our behavior in the shop and sometimes product based. Since we are actively being evaluated, we can then use this during student teaching since as a student we know what it looks like and what to expect.
1 – Identify the Triangulated Connection
Since I read that we need to be writing measurable objectives for our students to complete and be able to be evaluated on I found this resource that may provide help when writing objectives for lessons. https://eclearn.emmanuel.edu/courses/1285497/pages/how-to-write-measurable-learning-objectives/
