Coming back after a break

Wasn’t it nice to have a week off last week? No not really. Coming back this past week after being gone has been a lot of work mentally. Since I wasn’t there teaching or seeing what my students were doing and learning every day, I felt out of touch coming back. But I was able to pick up where they left off and continue teaching and be a part of an amazing event put on by students.

I tried a new project that I saw another teacher do on Facebook with creating feed bags with feed labels and all the different information that goes on a feed bag. I thought that this would take about two days, and I was wrong. This project took a total of 4 days which is fine because they turned out pretty good and they had to use the knowledge they learned while I was away. But after doing this project there are defiantly ways that I would improve it, that includes also doing more research myself to see what all goes into making a feed bag to make it feel more real life. I also learned a lot from my students during this project such as the best way to make a paper bag and allowing them to be more creative. Also, next time I would love to have a real in-person example for them to look at for the project instead of just a picture. All that said I’m glad that I did this project and can improve it for next time.

Example that my students followed: not their work or mine

In other news Dover FFA put on a great event this weekend called FFA Day! this event allowed community members to come to the high school and see student displays about their SAE projects and what they do in FFA such as different conferences and events. They also invited local agricultural businesses to come and set up stands to market their business and sell some products. I personally bought some goat milk soap which looks and smells amazing! They also had a variety of food stands incorporating local businesses such as a pizza shop, French fry/chicken strip stand, as well as PA farm show milkshakes. There was also a tactor show where local farmers and tractor owners brought their best tractors to be voted on for the “best tractor”. Also, Ag department was also open for an open house style walk through with some student class projects on display.

This event was a hit, multiple community members came to visit and see what this program does for high school students despite some weather. The best part is that the event was 100% student ran and planned. I can’t wait to see where they take this event by expanding and improving it each year that they do it! The students truly did an amazing job pulling it off.
