PAAE & GLAG experiences
PAAE
This was the second time that I got to attend the Pennsylvania Association of Agricultural Educators regional meeting. Unfortunately I was not able to attend in person, so I attended virtually via zoom.
During the meeting there was a lot of talk about budgets and planning and different scholarships that were going on.This reminded me a lot of the NAAE meeting that we attended in New Orleans. Zoom kept cutting out because of the internet connection there so it was hard to hear everything. but I could see that this provided a way for educators to come together and just have conversations with each other. While on zoom I was still able to have a conversation with Carol Fay, she is the expert on all things SAE and has helped out a few of my student while I've been student teaching. I wish that I had more to say about the meeting but since I didn't catch all of it due to zoom, I guess that's the benefit of attending in person!

Our changing menu is the book that we've been challenged to read, I will admit I haven't read the whole book yet. But so far I feel like it has challenged me to think about different topics that it brings up such as climate change, research, and where/how food is produced. there was a lot about climate change that made me think of how I was taught about it or the lack of teaching that I received on the topic. we all know that climate change can be a tricky subject, but the book stuck to the facts and provided evidence and research on it. I really liked that it provided research on it because sometimes it feels hard to back up your thoughts or conversation you have with people without that. there are so many misconceptions about climate change and im sure that will continue but thinking about how to use this in the classroom if I teach it I will definitely be using research to back up the topic. The one thing that really made me thing was that everything has an impact. yes when we think of climate change we think of humans and their effects, but we never talk about how nature and the environment impacts climate change. ill be honest I never thought if it either until now. everything plays off of each other creating an impact on the climate. something as simple as the suns position and it creating more or less heat affects the water either warming it or cooling it. I have never thought about the environment impacting its self, then you add humans to the equation which weather people believe it or not we do have an impact on the environment. both of them together creates changes to our environment and unfortunately some of them will not be reversible.
that's the end of my climate change rant and what Ive learned. But this book has some really interesting points about our world and I believe that I would be a good resource to add to any classroom. The book cover is provided below if you want to take a look at it!
